Great weekend

I had a great, busy weekend. Matt was in town, so it was great getting to show him around Ballard- we didn’t get to much more of Seattle save a quick walk through Pike Place, the new library, and a beer in the EMP. We got to go to a concert at the Tractor (Abigail Washburn), and went to a friend’s pumpkin carving contest (speed pumpkin carving- with a Sawzall!). We barely got him to the airport in time to catch his flight.

Matt had to work on Saturday so I also took the opportunity to get a dive in. We went down to Three Tree Point to try to find an octopus or two. We saw only one very shy Red Octopus hiding out in a rusty hawse pipe. It was a magical dive, though. We swam through many schools of these small silver fish and a ratfish that let me come within an arm’s length. We came across one sea star attacking another (the attackee fled and got away), and while doing our safety stop we got to play with a couple tiny
decorator crabs - they looked exactly like the surrounding seaweed save that they crawled around.

It was tremendous to be able to have a dive like that- I can’t dive during the chemo and I have to admit that I was really bothered by not being able to go. There’s something about being prevented from doing something you love that makes it so much more precious. I really wanted to be able to go one more time before I go through all this and I got my wish. To have it be such a wonderful dive was almost cathartic.
